Ten Oxford Brookes academics amongst REF panel membership appointments

Ten leading academics from Oxford Brookes University have been appointed to panels for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.

Named amongst over 400 members, assessors and specialist advisers, they will play a key role in assessing the wider impact of research in UK universities.

The REF is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions, first taking place in 2014. As part of REF 2021, each Unit of Assessment (UoA) has established a peer review panel to assess outputs, impact case studies and environment statements.

In 2018, four academics from Oxford Brookes were selected to be part of the REF 2021 panels – and now a further six have been appointed:

They join the four colleagues who were appointed to panels in 2018:

Professor Alistair Fitt, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University, said: “The appointment of ten of our academics illustrates the strength of research expertise at our university. More Oxford Brookes academics than ever before have been selected as part of the REF sub-panels and I congratulate all of my colleagues on their appointments.”

Megan Turmezei, OAHP said “This is great news for Brookes – Linda King has been on the Board of the Oxford Academic Health Partners since first designation and is a key supporter of the Partnership.

The 34 expert sub-panels will carry out the detailed assessment of submissions between May 2021 and February 2022, working under the guidance of four main panels. Full membership lists for the panels are available on the REF website.

In the REF 2014, 97% of research at Oxford Brookes was found to be internationally recognised and 59% of research was judged to be of ‘world leading’ quality or ‘internationally excellent’. Find out more about research at Oxford Brookes University
